Who is answerable for your data

The company sits inside the European Union, which means the General Data Protection Regulation reaches this site as domestic law, alongside the Croatian statute that carries it into force. What a search on this site records

What a comparison site needs is mostly about a car rather than a person. A search processes the pickup point you choose in or around Dubrovnik, the dates and times you set, the driver age band where you enter one, and the filters you switch on, such as an automatic gearbox or a supplier that takes a debit card. Read on their own, those values describe a journey and not an identity.

More arrives only if you go further. An enquiry, a question or a review gives us your name, an email address, a telephone number if you choose to add one, and the text you wrote. Nothing here asks you to open an account, and no profile builds up across your visits.

What never reaches us at all

A rental is completed by the supplier, not on this website, which removes the most sensitive category of data from our side of the arrangement. Your card number, its expiry date and its security code are entered on the supplier's own booking screen or handed over at the counter, and we hold no record of them. The same goes for your licence number, your passport and any scan of either. A supplier checks those at handover because its contract and its insurer require it, and keeps them under its own privacy notice rather than ours.

Server logs, cookies and measurement

Our web server writes a line for each request: the address it came from, the browser that sent it, the page asked for and the time. Alongside that we read aggregate figures showing which pages get attention and where visitors give up. Cookies are covered separately, with the lifetime of every category and the way to refuse it.

The lawful basis for each use

Handing your enquiry to the supplier you picked happens because you asked for it, as a step ahead of the contract you may go on to sign with them. Keeping the site up, blocking automated abuse and reading how it performs fall under legitimate interests, balanced each time against your privacy. Optional cookies stand on consent, which you can withdraw at any point. Where Croatian or European law obliges us to keep or disclose something, that duty is the basis.

Your rights, and how to use them

Because this site is operated from an EU member state, the rights below belong to you whether you are reading in Zagreb, Berlin or anywhere else:

• Ask what personal data we hold about you and receive a copy of it
• Have anything inaccurate corrected and anything incomplete filled in
• Have your data erased where we no longer have good reason to keep it
• Ask us to pause processing while a dispute about accuracy or grounds is settled
• Receive what you gave us in a machine readable file, or have it sent onward
• Object to any processing we justify by our own legitimate interest
• Withdraw an earlier consent, with no effect on what was lawful before
• Complain to a supervisory authority instead of, or as well as, to us

Who else sees it, and where

Your enquiry goes to the rental supplier you selected, the only party able to hold the car. LocalRent, the booking technology behind the results and the reservation flow, processes it on our instructions. Our hosting and email providers store the site and its correspondence. A public authority receives something only where the law obliges us. We do not sell personal data and we pass it to nobody for their own marketing.

Processing happens inside the European Economic Area wherever possible. Where a provider operates outside it, the transfer runs on a European Commission adequacy decision or on standard contractual clauses.

How long any of it survives

Enquiries and correspondence are kept while the matter is live and for a period afterwards, normally no longer than twenty four months. Server logs are anonymised inside twelve months. A published review stays until you ask us to remove it. Search parameters are not stored against you once the results have been served.

Children

Nobody under sixteen can hire a car in Croatia, this site is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly collect anything from one. Where a parent tells us that a child has typed something into a form here, we delete it.

Changes to this notice

This notice changes when the site changes, when a provider behind it changes, or when the law moves. The date under the title is always the version you are reading, and a material change is flagged there for a while so a returning visitor can see what moved.
