Three shapes hide inside those numbers
A September search returns the Skoda Kodiaq at the SUV end, the Opel Combo in the middle and the Opel Vivaro at nine seats. The SUVs park like a normal car and seat seven at a squeeze. The vans take nine and the bags, then need somewhere to sit overnight.
In May a fifth of the fleet reads as choice. In August the same number reads as a short list.

Four things that catch families out in Dubrovnik
Seven seats and seven bags are two different cars
Raise the third row and the space behind it is shopping space, not suitcase space. Cilipi is 20 km away, so your first drive is the fully loaded one.
Child seats are a request, not a fitting
Nothing here assumes one. Ask when you book, give the age and the weight, and check it lands on the booking.
The biggest car is often the wrong car
The lanes above the Old Town are narrow, walled and steeper than they photograph, and the older garages were not cut for a nine seat van.
The car does nothing on the days you stay in
The Old Town is walled and pedestrian, and no car enters. This one earns its money on the days you drive out.

Where the seven seats actually earn their keep
None of these are days you would split across two taxis. The Old Town is not on the list: you walk it.
The valley day, and the easiest one with children
Konavle is the green valley southeast of the airport, between the mountains and the sea. Villages, watermills and a long lunch, with a boot for what nobody wanted to carry. Wide roads by local standards, which matters in the nine seat van.
The short one, minutes from the airport
A harbour town along the coast from Cilipi, with a flat promenade a pushchair can handle and enough parking that arriving as six is not an ordeal. An obvious first or last day.
The long one, north over the bridge
North on the D8 and over the Peljesac Bridge, which opened in July 2022 and is free. Ston has the long defensive walls and the oyster beds, and the road up the peninsula runs between vineyards. No border on this route now, so nobody needs a passport.
The day the car sits still
Gruz holds the cruise terminal and the Jadrolinija berths. The boats out to the Elafiti are passenger ferries, and Lopud and Kolocep have no cars at all, so the van stays behind. Budget for a garage.

What parents booking for six ask us
Usually not on the first drive. With the third row raised, most of the 21 large cars here leave a boot the size of a weekly shop, and Cilipi is 20 km away. Lay the cases on the folded back row and raise the seats at the apartment.
You ask, and you ask when you book. A child seat is requested in advance here, not waiting in the boot, and suppliers hold a limited number. Give the age and the weight, and confirm it lands on the booking.
It depends on where you are sleeping more than on how many of you there are. A Skoda Kodiaq parks like a normal car and takes seven at a squeeze. An Opel Vivaro takes nine and the luggage, then needs somewhere long and tall to sit overnight.
Earlier than for a compact. Twenty one cars against 106 means the large end empties first, and six people cannot fall back on a Polo the way a couple can. Free cancellation is on 92 of the 106, so booking early costs nothing to change.
Often not comfortably. The lanes above the walls are narrow and steep, and the garages cut into that hillside were sized for far smaller cars. Send the model to your host and ask about length and height.
